Vegas Vacation Review
When you’re in the casinos, whether it’s playing a high-stakes game of blackjack or throwing coin after coin into the nickel slot machine, there is always a feeling of electricity and excitement in the air. One film that seems to capture that energy is, surprisingly enough, 1997’s Vegas Vacation.
This film is one of many Vacation films from National Lampoon, and stars Chevy Chase as Clark Griswold, who is taking his family to Las Vegas. The movie is a series of unexpected circumstances. The son, Rusty, gets into the casinos with a fake ID and ends up becoming a high roller while the father, Clark, is losing all of his money to unforgiving games. Daughter Audrey goes off with her cousin and ends up trying exotic dancing while at the same time the mother, Ellen, is being wooed by Wayne Newton.
The movie has everything that makes the area famous: the Hoover Dam, the deserts, the sometimes frightening people that roam the strip and of course, the excitement and intensity of the Vegas casinos. Watching Rusty win car after car as “Mr. Pappagiorgio” may be one of the funniest moments in the entire movie.
The cast is incredible and the jokes are basically non-stop for the entirety of the film. If you want a light-hearted film, and also want to see the beauty of the Las Vegas casinos, then Vegas Vacation is a perfect pick. This is also a great movie if you’re looking for a party pick, due to the fact that it is a quality film, but doesn’t require the audience to pay attention if other things are happening.
