The Music of Chance
In the desert of cinematic turkeys that make Ed Wood look like a visionary genius, there is an oasis called the Music of Chance.
The Music of Chance starts off as a chance meeting at the side of a road between two strangers. Jack Pozzi is a disheveled, almost homeless traveler in need of a ride. James Nashe is the Good Samaritan who offers Pozzi a lift. As it turns out Jack is a professional gambler who has been robbed of ten thousand dollars. The money was to be his bankroll in a poker tournament that he described as a "sure thing". Pozzi strikes a deal with Nashe. If Nashe will provide the ten grand, Pozzi will split the winnings 50/50. The plot may sound simple, but within this basic framework are layers of complex actions and reactions that center around the consequences of losing the poker game.
For those who have a good eye for film, there is symbolism sprinkled liberally throughout the movie. This movie came out in 1993, and to date has withstood the test of time.
