Snake Eyes (1998)
Finding Nicholas Cage in a film that is set in a Casino is about as difficult as finding a computer programmer at the opening of a Star Wars movie. Casinos seems to be the setting he is most comfortable in, and films where this is the backdrop, you can find him giving his best performances. Snake Eyes is no exception to this rule as he plays a corrupt Atlantic City cop.
Ricky Santoro (Nicholas Cage) is not only a corrupt cop, but he is a corrupt cop with dream. His goal in life is to become so well connected that he can eventually become the mayor of the eastern gambling Mecca. If he cant have that dream though, he will settle for the comfortable, well compensated life that has become his personal status quo. On the night of the heavyweight boxing championship, Rick becomes mixed up in the assassination of the Secretary of Defense, an assassination involving his best friend. To his misfortune, Rick becomes the investigating officer in the case and soon uncovers a conspiracy to kill the Secretary and a mysterious woman in white. The conspiracy turns out to be shocking enough, but the real surprise is the person who turns out to be the mastermind behind the entire plot.
Snake Eyes starts fast, but slows down near the end. This is only the calm before the storm as the film is gearing up for a big finish. This is the type of movie that gets hold of you and doesn’t let go until the very end.
