Casino Royale Review
Casino Royale is a great movie for someone taking a short break from the casino. Not only is it good for a laugh, it is one of the only movies ever to prominently feature baccarat. That’s right, baccarat plays as large of a part in this movie as any of the characters. Before getting into what makes this movie a casino lovers’ dream, perhaps a synopsis is in order.
Imagine an aging James Bond (now SIR James Bond) coming out of retirement to thwart a villain played by Orson Welles. Now imagine that this villain funds all of his evil projects with money that he makes from playing baccarat. Also throw into the mix that Sir James Bond has a nephew, Jimmy (played by a young Woody Allen), who is completely awkward. It plays out something like a 1967 version of Austin Powers, only making less sense. Trying to explain the complete story of this film would take days, and would still make next to no sense.
For a movie that is simply a spoof of the James Bond book of the same name, Casino Royale has phenomenal gambling scenes from the Casino Royale. The tables look simply amazing, and the atmosphere is one that leaves any gambling aficionado longing for the days of old.
The glamour of the casinos mixed with the thrill of the spy game; take that, shake in a liberal amount of classic comedy (make sure not to stir, though) and you have a movie for the ages.
