When MENSA speaks, people listen. Sometimes understanding what they have to say can be difficult. When this group of geniuses focuses their dumpster sized brains on the topic of casino gambling, those of us make a living at the casinos should not ignore them, regardless of what Star Trek based language they offer their statements in. With this in mind, we would suggest to take seriously the recommendation by the American MENSA Guide to Casino Gambling when they advised the book Optimal Strategy for Pai Gow Poker.
This book does not start off strong. Those who are new to the game will be confused by the fact that the book does not actually explain how the game is played. Instead of going through the basics, we dive right in on advanced strategy. The first criticism of the book could be that it is a work that is obviously not aimed at the beginner, but there is no way for anyone to know that until they buy the book and start reading.
With the exception of that structural faux pas, MENSA seemed to get it right when recommending this book. Advanced strategies for both the player and banker are explained in nauseatingly extensive detail. If you are not prepared for a seminar on the game that gets down to the most finite details, explaining every nuance, than this book is not for you. If you like your instructions to be detailed (overly detailed in some places), than you will be of one mind with MENSA on the topic of this book.
