Get the Edge at Blackjack
John May, author of Get the Edge at Blackjack, has had a website for years that is a discussion forum for regular blackjack players, and some of the content in this book has seemed to come from those discussions. That being said, this book is not the most recommended for beginners. While the book does discuss the basics of card-counting and strategy, its' strengths lie in the explanation of the more advanced blackjack techniques. A player looking for a good book as a novice player would be better educated with a book that has been written with the beginner in mind.
As far as non-beginners are concerned, this book is an interesting read, and can only be called good or bad depending on which style of blackjack you fall into. If you believe that card-counting is the only way to beat blackjack, you are not going to love this book. If you feel that there has to be another way to get an edge on the casino, May has more than a few suggestions. The book attempts to be informative without being too leading. It allows the player to choose their own style.
The book was published in late 2000, and only runs 160 pages, which is a nice sized book to take on a plane. If you want a new book, you're looking at somewhere around $12, which is standard fare. If you are in the mood to buy the book used, you can find it online for near $5. This is one of the more open-minded blackjack books available, and is as useful as your playing style allows.
