Comp City: A Guide to Free Casino Vacations
This book is one of a handful that attempt to find ways to get the most out of your trips to the casino. The way that they attempt to get that little extra something is to work the casino for comps, or little bonuses for casino loyalty, along with the amount of money you are putting into the pockets of the casino. Comps are usually given at a percentage of what you are expected to make for the casino, usually around 5% or so. The strategy of books like Comp City is to make it seem like you are playing for more money than you actually are so that the casinos will be lured into giving you more freebies for your buck
The book is a funny read, and Max Rubin is quite a witty guy. The stories sound like the stuff that sitcoms are made of. The plans for getting the most out of the comps, however, seem to be a little over the top for the average gambling tourist. More than being a guide to comps, this book is more of a guide on ruses to have the casino give you free things, and many of them feel downright dirty, like begging the casino for any spare crumbs that they are willing to throw your way. The book has some funny ideas, but more are simply not realistic for the everyday, run of the mill gambler.
