Blackjack Autumn: A Tale of Life, Death and Splitting Tens in Winnemucca
When reading books on gambling, it's sometimes nice to get away from the status quo, especially when it comes to books on blackjack. There are perhaps millions of books on the shelves of the world discussing card-counting, basic strategy and a number of off-the-wall systems in a sickening level of detail. It's occasionally fun to escape the sheer complexity of successful blackjack and get into the fun of the game.
Blackjack Autumn does just that. The premise of the book is simple enough. A card-counter is going to hit every casino in Nevada. He has an $8000 bankroll. What happens during the story is a series of good times and bad times. As with any gambling story, there are big wins and some horrendous losses, and there is the constant fear of being caught counting the cards as well.
The writing is interesting. The best advice is to look up Barry Meadow online and read some excerpts. The man has been writing for decades, so it won't be difficult. If you like his writing style, you'll enjoy this book. He does overuse simile, so be prepared for it. The humor is engaging, however, even when the situations become cliché and predictable.
In all, this is a good book. It may not be Shakespeare, but if you simply want an interesting story that has some blackjack in it, pick up Blackjack Autumn and you shouldn't be disappointed.
