Blackjack: A Winners' Handbook
Jerry Patterson has written a number of books on casino gaming. He has his own website devoted to selling these books, and gives samples of the chapters included. As a matter of fact, Blackjack: A Winners' Handbook is the third highest-selling blackjack book of all time. That's right, of all time. For a few dollars extra you can order an autographed copy from the website (http://www.casinogamblingedge.com/bjhbpr.htm).
None of these factors deals with the most common factor: is this a good book?
There are some benefits to this book. If you know nothing about blackjack, you're going to get a good introduction to the game and the various strategies that are available to use. If you are a person that has played blackjack before and wants a book that is going to take them to the next level, look elsewhere. What Patterson does best in this book is attempt to sell his rather expensive new "system." Any gambler worth their weight knows that there is no system worth paying for. If you are an experienced gambler, this book is basically an insult to your intelligence.
Blackjack: A Winners' Handbook is an average-sized book at 269 pages. The most recent edition was published in 2001, so it's also a fairly new book. If you're looking for a new copy, think somewhere in the $10 range. If you want a used edition, you can buy this book for little over a dollar. If you're interested in Patterson and what he has to say, this book is worth a dollar.
