PokerStars
There was an advertisement a few years back for the American film version of Godzilla. Two words dominated the were "Size Matters". This is something to remember when playing poker online. Size not only implies that the site is healthy, and trusted by a fairly large representation of the poker playing public, but it also means you will have no problem finding a game. PokerStars.com is one of the biggest online poker rooms around, and is also (not surprisingly) one of the best.
When playing at peak times of the day, there can be as many as 25,000 people playing here at once. Off peak hours are, obviously, less active, but even at the least busy times on PokerStars.com, they are pulling in more players than some of the lesser sites are at their peak times.
PokerStars.com is very aggressive when it comes to bonus structures and promotions. Though you can find other places to play with bigger matching bonuses when you first upload money into your account, very few offer the freerolls, and high money promotions that a player can find at PokerStars.com.
One of the very few drawbacks of this site is the fact that they are not very friendly to any computer system that is not a product of Bill Gates imagination. If you own a Mac or Linux, their software is simply not compatible with your system. Those who own Macs can simply get the program that makes your computer run like Windows, but Linux users are out of luck. Seeing as the vast majority of computer owners are running Windows, this is a small complaint to be sure, and we can't expect that anything can be perfect. PokerStars comes pretty close though.
