Vegas Dreams Game Review
Released by Hal Laboratories in March of 1990, Vegas Dreams was special in the fact that it may be the only good casino game ever released for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Other casino games, such as Casino Kid, had tried to create stories that were interesting while giving players the games they wanted to play, and had failed. Vegas Dreams takes a slightly different approach to the genre, and comes out a winner.
The basic premise of the game is simple: you come to Las Vegas with $700 in your pockets. Now it’s time to see what you can do with it. The game gives you four main gaming options: you can choose from slots, blackjack, roulette and keno. Fairly standard fare, yet the games are all done well.
The sound effects are very accurate for a NES game, and while the music will get irritating eventually, each game has its own theme. That definitely allows you to play longer before you get tired of the sound.
The graphics are very well done for an 8-bit game. The slots look like slot machines, the cards look like they should, etc. The control is great. Everything is intuitive, working like it should. One of the best features of this game is that you can play with up to four players. Also, people will constantly come up and ask for things, favors and whatnot. Your decisions can either cost you or make you money. It’s hard to judge who’s honest, too.
If you see this, buy it. If you play Nintendo, buy it for yourself. If you have a kid who wants to learn about blackjack or roulette, buy it for them. It’s definitely worth the $5 or so that it’s going to cost.
