Tom Jones
Tom Jones is a Welsh holdover from the British invasion of the 1960's. Since his arrival during the mid 60's, Jones has displayed his musical versatility by applying his booming voice to nearly every form of popular music. This includes pop, rock, show tunes, country, dance, and techno. In short, he has done it all. Regardless of what he was singing he has never managed to lose sight of who he is musically. Making the music fit his voice instead of the opposite.
Jones's appeal was as much sexual as anything else. His masculinity was a contrast from many of other popular acts that were coming across the Atlantic from Britain. The talent, the big voice, and sexual appeal made Jones a perfect fit for the Vegas strip.
At the end of the 60's Jones moved to the United States where he hosted a variety show that aired for three seasons. The show was a success and made the move to Las Vegas in the early 70's all the easier.
As not just a singer, but as an established entertainer, Jones hit the Vegas strip. This marked a change in his career where he did fewer actual recordings, opting for club performances instead. Oddly enough, the less new material he recorded, and the more shows he did, the more famous he became.
