Frank Sinatra
Today, casinos make more money with non-gaming revenue than on their actual casino floors. That means that people are coming to casinos the world over, spending a fair amount on gambling, but putting down more for high-class meals, spa treatments, and of course, shows. Thousands of performers come to the casinos every year, with the bulk heading to Las Vegas. Acts from Celine Dion to Dane Cook can be seen performing in casinos, but the age of being associated with the casino lifestyle seems to be fading from existence. Perhaps no one personified the casino-lifestyle from a celebrity standpoint more than Frank Sinatra.
Sinatra was as much a part of Las Vegas as the slot machines and roulette tables. Performing in Sin City for the first time in 1951, he would continue to entertain casino patrons and their families until 1994. His shows were always top-quality, and before the end of his career in Vegas, he was one of the most popular shows on the strip.
Frank Sinatra was more than simply a casino performer. He gave the city a sense of style, along with friends and fellow Rat-Pack members Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. They became the stuff legends are made of, tales of gambling all night long, drinking and laughing with the other players. Even looking at the city today, looking at all of the people who come in trying to play the part of the experienced casino patron, you can see that they are really just trying to be like Frank.
