Carrot Top
Most people give prop comics the same respect they reserve for mimes or garden gnomes. Carrot top is no exception. The man is hopelessly silly, and that seems to be exactly the way he likes it.
Watching him drag out an endless parade of trunks on to the stage gives one a feeling similar to when you have snuck up into your grandmother’s attic, and discover her steamer trunks full of everything from old pictures, to grandpa. In Carrot tops trunks there is nothing as mundane as ancient photos, or as macabre as the body of somebody from his gene pool. All he is using pulling from his trunks are props.
Props are just that, props, they are not where the comedy comes from. The actual funny stuff comes from the guy with the weird hair. During his act, absolutely no person or topic is off limits. Everybody from the American Presidents to entertainment icons such as Whitney Houston have found themselves in his cross-hairs.
Carrot Top is not just flash in the pan comedian or a cheap pitch guy for long distance service he has been honored with the American Comedy Award for Best Male Stand-up. He has also passed the test of time. He has remained funny and relevant for a significant number of years. This is not something that happens by accident, this only occurs when somebody has taken the time to learn their craft, and perfect a style that works for them and does not simply cater to the whims of the day.
